Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has admitted that he had talks with Cristiano Ronaldo during the transfer window and also said that the transfer of Radamel Falcao stopped them from moving for the Real Madrid winger.

“We met in the spring but did not talk because he was playing for Real Madrid and then was in the heights of negotiations to renew,” Vasilyev told L’Equipe.

“We were already working on signing Radamel Falcao. And we have to be humble; it is not possible to have both Falcao and Cristiano. Of course we would like Cristiano, but we have spent a lot of money and, in the future, we will invest less,” he added.

Monaco were on a spending spree in the summer with the club spending a total of 166 million euros with Falcao being the most expensive signing with a fee of 60 million euros.
