More assists than Lampard: Everton set to capture clinical winger

Spartak Moscow winger Aiden McGeady is on the verge of signing a pre-contractual agreement with Everton that will take him to Goodison Park in the summer, with an approach for Blackpool’s Tom Ince also in the pipeline, according to The Liverpool Echo.

The Irishman, who joined the Russian side in 2010, has been on Toffees boss Roberto Martinez’s radar for some time. The Spaniard previously failed in an attempt to bring the 27 year-old to Wigan during his successful spell with The Latics.

With personal terms between player and club close to being agreed, McGeady would arrive as a free agent in the summer, once his contract expires at Moscow, with Martinez content to wait and not pay a fee for the former Celtic man’s signature.

Meanwhile, Martinez is also weighing up an offer for Blackpool’s Tom Ince. Several clubs are interested in the former Liverpool wide man, including Swansea City, but is believed to be interested in a return to Merseyside, albeit the other half of the city.

Any deal would depend on the outcome of an upcoming tribunal that is set to determine the level of compensation Blackpool should receive should the England Under-21 star leave once his contract has run out. Although the move would be likely to collapse if the court rules that the fee owed owed rises above Martinez’s valuation of the player.

Both players would complement the attacking style that Martinez has employed at Goodison Park this season, with more options on either flank only strengthening the contingent of technically gifted players he has amassed and drilled into an excellent side.

Aiden McGeady has created 14 chances, getting 4 assists this season.
