Moussa Sissoko: The biggest steal of the transfer window

Last week, I wrote that Yanga-Mbiwa would be the coup of the January transfer window. Although it is early days, I may just have been proven wrong by his fellow countryman, Moussa Sissoko. Sissoko is a man mountain using his power, strength and pace to get the better of his opposition.

The Frenchman’s contract with Toulouse was due to expire at the end of the season and Newcastle were set to sign him on a free in June. However, due to increasingly glum circumstances in terms of Newcastle’s league position, the signing was brought forward to the January window for a sum of just under £2 million. For that price, Sissoko looks to be an absolute bargain.

Moussa Sissoko has all the attributes needed to make it in the English Premier League and is just the sort of player Newcastle needed to try and help them out of their lowly league position. The immediate impact he has made to the club has been nothing short of outstanding.

Since Sissoko’s arrival, Newcastle have beaten Aston Villa in their first away win of the season and beaten Chelsea in a thriller at St. James’ Park. His two man of the match performances have undoubtedly showcased his thoroughly impressive skills, and showed that he will be a force to be reckoned with.

His display against Chelsea on Saturday was particularly impressive, with his incredible pace and power proving to be too much for the Chelsea defence. This begs the question, if he can terrorise the defence of one of the Champions of Europe, what can he do to weaker sides?

Sissoko may well be the catalyst for a Newcastle resurgence in these last 13 games. With the Magpies now only 3 points away from 10th, they have a chance to push on and make amends for their poor first half of the season.

Moussa Sissoko may well turn out to be the driving force of the Magpies from here on in.
