Moyes thinks Manchester United deserved to win against Fulham
David Moyes was left bemoaning his bad luck after Manchester United could only draw 2-2 at home to Fulham on Sunday.
United came from a goal down to go 2-1 up with a quickfire double, but threw the points away in the dying seconds of the match as Darren Bent headed home after David De Gea had only parried a fierce shot.
And Moyes was disappointed not to have claimed all three points, with Fulham having been penned in their own box for the majority of the game, as United’s hopes of finishing in the top four fade even further.
He told Sky Sports after the game, “We should have won it, but lapses cost us. We probably had to defend three or four times the entire game, but that happens in football sometimes.
“We tried everything to try and win – we crossed it, passed it, tried to get through – but we just didn’t have the finishing touches.
“I think if we had got a goal early on then it would have completely altered the game. As it was, the more we went to score, they had a couple of chances and one they scored from. But I hardly felt as if they were on the park today.
“It has been quite often here at Old Trafford when we haven’t got the goal, we have maybe lost a goal and ended up chasing the game. We did that today.
“If we hadn’t got back into the game then there would have been something up, because we totally deserved it. We deserved to win the game, but you don’t always get what you deserve.”
Manchester United are now nine points adrift of fourth-placed Liverpool, as they risk not qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in 19 years.
Nemanja Vidic was the only starting outfield player not to attempt a cross for Manchester United against Fulham as they attempted a record 81 crosses in the 2-2 with the Cottagers.
