Highlights: Muller double inspires Bayern Munich to a 3-0 victory over Olympiakos

Bayern Munich players celebrate Muller’s spectacular opener in their 3-0 victory over Olympiakos

Bayern Munich kicked off their Champions League season in style as the German champions registered a convincing 3-0 victory over Greek side Olympiakos.

Following a strong start to their Bundesliga campaign and one of the contenders to win the Champions League this season, Bayern were favourites heading into this tie and Pep Guardiola’s side did live up to their reputation as two goals from Thomas Muller and one from Mario Gotze sealed all three points at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskáki.

Bayern were threatened by Olympiakos’ attack force in the first half with the hosts creating numerous chances and were potentially the more dangerous side of the two. But Bavarian keeper Manuel Neuer efficiently guarded his goal and managed to save all of their efforts.

With the scoreline at stalemate during half time, in form forward Muller broke the deadlock seven minutes after the break as he deceived goalkeeper Roberto and scored with a beautiful lob from the right wing that was originally intended to be a cross into the opponent’s box.

The scoreline stayed 1-0 until stoppage time when Mario Gotze ended the hosts' hopes of salvaging a draw as he doubled his side’s lead in the dying minutes of the game after good work from substitute Kingsley Coman.

Muller extended their lead further just moments before the final whistle when he converted a penalty after Arthur Masuaku had fouled Coman inside the area.

Here are the goals from the match.
