Rumour: Napoli to compete with Arsenal for AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli
Premier League outfit Arsenal face competition from Serie A side Napoli for Mario Balotelli’s signature this summer, reports the Express.
The 23-year-old only joined AC Milan in January 2013 but has reportedly become disillusioned with life at the San Siro, despite a return to form.
Gunners chief Arsene Wenger is believed to be keen on Balotelli, although question marks remain over his consistency and discipline at the highest level.
Balotelli has highlighted precisely why he is widely viewed a risky signing during the World Cup, with a match winning performance against England followed by a dismal display against Costa Rica.
However, although the forward was believed to be keen on a return to England’s top tier having thrived during a previous stint at Manchester City, he could yet be swayed to stay in the country of his birth.
Napoli manager Rafael Benitez is resigned to losing Gonzalo Higuain to Barcelona and believes Balotelli can spearhead his new look front line.
Milan will be unwilling to let their prize asset leave on the cheap and either Napoli or Arsenal will need to produce a sum similar to the £24 million paid for Balotelli last year if they want to secure their man.
Mario Balotelli scored 14 goals in 30 Serie A appearances last season.
