Rumour: Napoli hold talks with Manchester United over Marouane Fellaini switch
Napoli are holding conversations with Manchester United regarding the transfer of their Belgian midfielder, Marouane Fellaini, according to reports.
Fellaini joined Manchester United last season from Everton for a fee of £27.5million, making him the fourth most expensive player in club history. He was the club’s first major signing under David Moyes.
However, the ex-Standard Liege star had a terrible first season at Old Trafford, with his performances at an all time low ever since his move to England. The midfielder so far has been unable to live up to his lofty price tag, making first 12 months at the “Theatre of Dreams” a nightmare.
It now looks like United are ready to cut their losses and get rid of his £100,000 a week salary. Hence, they seem to be ready to sell him at a much lower price than what they bought him for last summer.
Napoli coach Rafa Benitez, however sees Fellaini’s buccaneering style of play both when played in the hole as well as a holding midfielder to be useful in the Serie A.
However, the Serie A club may not be able to cough up the reported the £15million that the Red Devils are reportedly asking. With financial restraints to take into account, Rafa Benitez would rather see a move on a temporary basis for Fellaini, with a view to make the transfer a permanent one over the next summer.
Fellaini made only 12 starts for Manchester United last season in the Premier League, failing to score even once.
