Napoli sign Swansea star Michu on season-long loan

Michu joins Napoli on loan

Italian side Napoli have secured the services of Michu on a season long loan deal with a view to a permanent move.

The Spanish forward joined the Premier League side two years ago for a fee of £2.2 million from Rayo Vallecano in 2012 and scored 18 Premier League goals in his first season.

But the 28 year old striker had an injury stricken second season with only 15 top-flight starts. He had also become second fiddle to Ivory Coast striker Wilfried Bony at the Liberty Stadium

Now, the Welsh club have confirmed that the 28-year-old has finalised a switch to San Paolo, with Rafa Benitez’s team having the option to sign him permanently at the end of the coming season.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis was the first to announce the news, taking to Twitter to welcome Michu to the club.

But, while Michu will hope that his move to Italy brings about a turnaround in his fortunes, the Oviedo-born forward will need to be at his best to earn a regular place in an attacking line-up that already features Gonzalo Higuain, Jose Callejon and Dries Mertens.
