Nemanja Vidic to Inter Milan: Done deal?

Manchester United centre-back Nemanja Vidic has agreed a two year contract with Serie A side Internazionale, reports Goal.com.

The 32-year-old, who produced a number of unforgettable moments during his time at Old Trafford, announced that he would leave the club in January and has reportedly agreed a deal worth £2.5 million a year with the Italian giants.

Although the Serbian received offers from Galatasaray and Monaco, a gentleman’s agreement was put in place after United’s 0-0 draw with Arsenal last Wednesday night, with Inter Milan’s general manager Piero Ausilio in attendance.

Vidic will be Walter Mazzarri’s first summer signing of 2014 and represents an excellent addition given that he brings a wealth of experience and no transfer fee will be paid as the defender’s current United deal is set to expire.

The Nerazzurri are currently fifth in Serie A and have struggled to attract big name players in recent years as they have slipped down the reckoning on the European stage, but should secure a place in next season’s Europa League. However, club expectations demand a Champions League spot and Vidic is believed to have a vital role to play as they seek to earn a return to Europe’s elite.

Inter believe that Vidic has the potential to become a club ambassador and are keen to exploit the growing interest in the game in his home nation, where the former Serbian captain holds huge influence.

Having joined the Red Devils from Spartak Moscow in 2006, Vidic has been a stalwart servant, but his departure could spark a mass exodus as new boss David Moyes looks to rebuild his squad with several established players opting to leave and fringe players being moved on as the Scot attempts to make his mark on the squad he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson.
