Netherlands 2-1 Turkiye: Dutch Player Ratings as they stage a fantastic comeback to seal a semi-final spot | UEFA Euros 2024

The Netherlands beat Turkiye 2-1 on Saturday at the Olympiastadion Berlin to advance to the semi-finals of the Euros campaign.

The Netherlands started the game on a better note but lost their sheen as and when the game progressed. Turkiye started getting a hold of the proceedings and went one up as Samet Akaydin headed one past Bart Verbruggen's post, receiving a beautiful pass from Arda Guler.

The second half started with Ronald Koeman's men looking for an equalizer, but Guler hit the woodwork with a beautiful curling free-kick effort to provide a scare.

The Netherlands stabilized and started exerting more and more pressure, for which they were rewarded. Stefan de Vrij headed a cross from Memphis Depay to equalize for his side. The Dutch took the lead after Denzel Dumfries' cross forced Mert Muldur into scoring an own goal.

Turkiye did create multiple good chances but some stunning defensive work at the back allowed the Netherlands to survive.

On that note, let's take a look at the player ratings for the Netherlands.

Netherlands Player Ratings

Bart Verbruggen - 7.5/10

Bart Verbruggen made a couple of fantastic saves to deny Turkiye. The first one was a fingertip push to deny Arda Guler's free-kick attempt. The other was a splendid reflex to deny the equalizer in the game's dying moments.

Denzel Dumfries - 8/10

Denzel Dumfries was astute defensively. But his major contribution came upfront as his low-lying cross forced an own goal from Mert Muldur. He was everywhere on the right flank.

Virgil van Dijk - 7/10

Virgil van Dijk was the commander at the back. The Liverpool defender won seven duels, made three recoveries, won one tackle, made one interception, cleared the ball seven times and made one block. Van Dijk was very dominant in the air. Baris Yilmaz did trouble him on multiple occasions, though.

Stefan de Vrij - 8/10

Stefan de Vrij played a perfect partner to Virgil van Dijk at the back. He was calm and composed at the back, spraying the ball with utmost tranquility. De Vrij, most importantly, scored a strong header to equalize the game. He deservedly won the Player of the Match award for his performance.

Nathan Ake - 7/10

Nathan Ake was decent with his positioning and provided the support whenever necessary but more is expected from him moving forward.

Jerdy Schouten - 5/10

Jerdy Schouten did have a physical presence in the center but lacked creativity when in possession.

Tijjani Reijnders - 6.5/10

Tijjani Reijnders looked progressive, provided the shield in the center and played some tidy football. Provided decent shape and always looked eager to regain possession when out of it.

Steven Bergwijn - 5/10

Steven Bergwijn did not have the best of games. As seen before, Wout Weghorst replaced him in the 46th minute of the game.

Xavi Simons - 6/10

Xavi Simons displayed excellent game sense and positioned himself well when attacking. He created three chances throughout the game but was beaten for physicality upfront as Turkiye defenders were too strong for him.

Cody Gakpo - 7/10

Cody Gakpo came to life in the later stages of the match. He forced Muldur into sliding the ball into his own net and also looked to get onto the end of the chances. Silent for the majority of the game but contributed when it mattered.

Memphis Depay - 8/10

Memphis Depay was lively in the second half and was heavily involved in every attack. He completed three dribbles and created three chances throughout the game. Depay's fantastic delivery led to De Vrij's equalizer for their side, which led to the comeback.

Substitutes

Wout Weghorst - 7/10

Wout Weghorst played like a proper No. 9, which the Netherlands seemed to be missing upfront. Got in some dangerous positions but should have done better on one or two occasions. He did make a vital block to save his side at the back.

Micky van de Ven - 7/10

Mick van de Ven made a goal-saving block in the later stages of the game.

Joey Veerman - 6/10

Joey Veerman did not have much to do in the game.

Jeremie Frimpong - N/A

Did not have much impact on the game.

Joshua Zirkzee - N/A

Joshua Zirkzee came on in the closing stages to make his first appearance of the campaign.
