New Record: Cristiano Ronaldo becomes first player to score in 8 consecutive Serie A away games
What’s the story?
Cristiano Ronaldo has set yet another record after becoming the first player to score in eight consecutive Serie A away matches.
In case you didn’t know…
Ronaldo joined Juventus last summer from Real Madrid and has played an integral part in leading the side to the top of Serie A. The Portuguese netted his 15th league goal over the weekend as Juve came from behind to beat Lazio 2-1.
However, the goal did not just secure victory for Max Allegri’s men, but it also meant that the 33-year-old has added another enviable record to his personal collection.
Ronaldo has already broken a number of records since joining Juventus, including becoming the fastest player to reach 10 goals in his debut season for the Old Lady. He also became the first player to score 400 league goals in Europe’s top 5 leagues, as well as the first player to win 100 Champions League games.
The heart of the matter
Ronaldo’s goal against Lazio over the weekend was his eighth consecutive strike on the road this season. It makes him the first player to enjoy such a goal-scoring run since the three-point era of the Serie A began in 1994/95.
The Portuguese netted his record-breaking goal from the spot in the 88th minute, having sent Lazio goalkeeper, Thomas Strakosha, the wrong way.
What’s next?
Ronaldo has always been a goal machine and his current form proves he is not going to slow down anytime soon. However, his target will definitely be to emerge top scorer in the Serie A, as he is currently a goal shy of Sampdoria's Fabio Quagliarella on the top-scorers' chart.
But the long-term goal would definitely be to lead Juventus to the Champions League title. Having been European champion five times with Real Madrid, there is no doubt that Ronaldo would love to replicate that success at Juve.
