Newcastle agree fee for Loic Remy

Newcastle have agreed a fee of €10.5m fee for the services of French forward Loic Remy with Olympique de Marseille. Newcastle were pushing hard to find a replacement for their leading goal-scorer Demba Ba who left for Chelsea in the January transfer window. Remy had been linked to Newcastle in recent times and had rejected QPR’s offer to join the Londoners.

Asked about Remy’s name being linked to the Tynesiders after the Norwich game, Alan Pardew had said: ‘It isn’t just one deal that appears to be hotting up — there are three or four and we need that.’ The deal was ratified by by a tweet from team-mate Joey Barton on twitter.

Remy’s arrival would further re-enforce the French contingent at Newcastle after Mathieu Debuchy was also recruited earlier in January. The Frenchman’s arrival would add to the creative forces at Newcastle who have been jolted by injuries to notable playmakers Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa in recent times. The deal is subject to a medical.
