Newcastle's coach Willie Donachie resigns after allegedly hitting a player
Newcastle’s reserve team manager Willie Donachie has resigned after being involved in a physical fight with 19-year-old defender Remie Streete, during Newcastle Under-21 team’s 2-0 defeat against rivals Sunderland.
The club released a statement saying: “Newcastle United can confirm that Willie Donachie has resigned from his position as reserve team manager with immediate effect. The club will be making no further comment.”
It is believed that Newcastle United had suspended Donachie for disciplinary reasons, but it was Donachie’s decision to resign.
Apparently Donachie was very disappointed at Remie Streete, who had conceded a penalty and a heated exchange of comments between the two led them into a fight.
“I’m just sad to see anybody lose their job, as Joe has,” Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said.
“He did a lot of good work here. But that decision was the board’s decision. I was surprised that the decision was made at that time but it was not my decision. I have not spoken to him since but I’m sure I will do.”
