Newcastle enter race for Manchester United target Daryl Janmaat, according to reports
Newcastle are set to fight it out with Manchester United for Feyenoord defender Daryl Janmaat, writes the Mail Online.
Man United were reported to have put their feelers out with regards to Janmaat last week, following the the right-back’s impressive displays for Netherlands in the World Cup.
Alan Pardew is scouring the market for a right-back in light of Mathieu Debuchy’s imminent transfer to Arsenal, with Janmaat emerging as an affordable replacement.
However, Louis van Gaal is also keen to bring his national charge to Old Trafford, having worked with the 24-year-old extensively during his two-year reign as the Oranje boss.
Elsewhere, the Red Devils have held further discussions with Sporting Lisbon over the sale of enforcer William Carvalho.
The Premier League outfit are keen to bolster their defensive midfield options but are reluctant to match Lisbon’s extortionate £37 million valuation.
United have also made a formal approach for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, who could leave Turin as the Serie A champions attempt to raise funds for a run at Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez.
