Rumour: Newcastle and France right back Mathieu Debuchy in advanced talks with Arsenal
Ever since Bacary Sagna announced he would be leaving Arsenal to join Premier League champions Manchester City the Gunners have been on the look out for a new right back.
On Monday afternoon Twitter took off with reaction to the news from French media outlet infosports that the man who would fill Sagna’s shoes at Arsenal would be Newcastle’s Mathieu Debuchy.
For some time it had appeared as if Toulouse full back Serge Aurier would be the man that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger turned to but for whatever reason that move now looks unlikely to happen. Debuchy does have the added advantage of Premier League experience under his belt but only time will tell if he is the man to replace Bacary Sagna.
Debuchy was part of the Lille team that won Ligue 1 in 2011 and since moving to Newcastle in January 2013 the full back has established himself as one of the most consistent players in the team.
His departure would be bad news for Newcastle who have developed a worrying habit of losing their big players in the past few transfer windows.
Further developments later took place as L’Equipe reported the following:
“Matheiu Debuchy (28) is in advanced talks with Arsenal. According to our sources, the right-back hasn’t yet signed a deal with the Gunners. In London, the Newcastle player could replace Bacary Sagna who has signed for Manchester City.”
