Newcastle set to be boosted by the return of influential centre-back
Alan Pardew is set to be handed a boost ahead of Newcastle’s next game against Liverpool with captain Steven Taylor set to return from a hamstring injury, according to Chronicle Live and Sky Sports.
Taylor has not featured for the Magpies since their crushing opening day defeat to Manchester City, where he was also shown a red card in a 4-o loss.
The Newcastle defender will also be joined by Massadio Haidara, who has yet to make an appearance this campaign due to a niggling knee injury.
The international break is seen by Magpies staff as an opportunity for the duo to build up their fitness and potentially make a return in time for the visit of second-placed Liverpool.
Fabricio Coloccini and Michael Williamson have been the favoured centre-back duo in Taylor’s absence, but it is thought that the latter could make way.
Newcastle are looking to improve on their 16th place finish last-term, and are currently in 11th after seven games.
Taylor enjoyed a decent 2012/13 season with Newcastle, maintaining a 90% pass accuracy rate and successfully making 75% of his tackles.
