Rumour: Newcastle United reportedly close to signing French star Remy Cabella for £7m

Newcastle have been hot on the heels of the Frenchman for quite some time

Newcastle United are finally set to complete the signing of Montpellier star Remy Cabella for a fee in the region of £7 million, according to Chronicle Live.

Cabella, 24, has been a target for Newcastle for several months and some reports claimed they were close to signing him back in the January transfer window. However, an awful January that saw Yohan Cabaye leave without a replacement lined up could be soon forgotten if Cabella completes his move to Tyneside.

It will be a welcome addition for manager Alan Pardew is the reports are correct as they have lacked a spark in midfield capable of creating chances for the forwards ever since Cabaye left for Paris Saint-Germain.

If Newcastle seal the transfer within the next 48 hours, it would show a lot of progress from recent transfer windows with just Loic Remy coming into the club on-loan last summer. It would also allow for the rest of the summer to target a new striker as Remy is set to move on from both Newcastle and his parent club, Queens Park Rangers.

He was a star in Ligue 1 last season in a poor Montpellier team and while the fans are cynical about how the club is being run, or how transfers are being dealt with, the Frenchman will be welcome respite.

Cabella could fill the big shoes left behind by Cabaye and push Newcastle on to a European finish in the Premier League next season.
