Newcastle United-Manchester City Statistical Preview
Team News
Newcastle United
Alan Pardew fielded a strong lineup to get to this stage of the Capital One Cup by beating Leeds in the last round, and will do so again for the visit of Manchester City here.
There could be a few changes from the weekend, though, with the likes of Loic Remy and Hatem Ben Arfa unlikely to feature so soon after the Sunderland game.
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa returns from suspension and could start in central defence.
Manchester City
Vincent Kompany remains City’s only absentee and he won’t be back in time to play at St James’ Park.
Manuel Pellegrini is likely to make wholesale changes for this outing.
Jack Rodwell could be amongst those brought in, along with James Milner and Edin Dzeko.
Prediction
Both teams come into this game on the back of 2-1 defeats on Sunday and will be hoping that the Capital One Cup can provide some respite from their league woes.
City will make changes across the board but have such strength in depth that they should be able to overcome their opponents here.
Yaya Toure could be the only player to remain from the weekend’s action given his fantastic goalscoring record against the Magpies.
