Newcastle asked to cough up World Record £86m for Montpellier's Remy Cabella
Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has been given the nod to sign Remy Cabella by Montpellier, but only if he coughs up a world record fee of £86 million.
Newcastle have been asked to match the world record fee paid for Gareth Bale, if they want to land Remy Cabella now, or try their luck again in the summer.
Remy Cabella has been valued at £12m by the Magpies, but the outspoken Louis Nicollin, president of Montpellier thinks otherwise.
“For us to let Cabella go in January, Newcastle will have to pay what Real Madrid paid for Gareth Bale.”
He further advised Cabella not to add to the already large contingent of Frenchman currently at Newcastle, before mocking the club and the city.
“Personally, I wouldn’t go there. You must get bored s***less in Newcastle. Remy is a boy I love and he deserves a better club than Newcastle.
“If they pay the money in summer, there will be no problem, but I would advise him to go elsewhere. If there are good offers then that will allow us to have a good season next year, especially if we are in the top division – but there’s no question at all of him leaving now,” said the chairman, who had died his orange and blue to mark Montpellier winning the French title in 2012.
Meanwhile, Senegalese striker Papiss Cisse has been wanted by Besiktas, who want to loan him now, with a provision to sign him in the summer for £8 million.
