“3 games away from the trophy”, “Give Musiala Ballon d’Or” - Fans react as Germany book Euro 2024 quarter-final berth with win over Denmark

Germany have advanced to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 after bagging a 2-0 win against Denmark at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund on Saturday, June 29,

After an eventful yet goalless first half, Germany opened the scoring after Arsenal star Kai Havertz successfully netted a penalty in the 53rd minute following a handball incident involving Denmark's Joachim Anderson. The Danish defender's evening was devoid of luck as he also had a goal in the first half ruled out for a tight offside. Jamal Musiala doubled the score in the 68th minute from an assist by Nico Schlotterbeck.

Fans took to social media to react to Die Mannschaft's win over Denmark. While some heaped praise on Julian Nagelsmann's men, others suggested that Musiala should be awarded the 2024 Ballon d’Or. Here are some of their reactions on X:

Players who could strengthen their case for the Ballon d’Or after Euro 2024

Several players participating in the ongoing Euro 2024 can boost their chances of winning the Ballon d’Or this year.

France captain Kylian Mbappe, who recently joined Real Madrid after an impressive final season with Paris Saint-Germain, netted 44 times and provided 10 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions. Even though the 25-year-old couldn't win the Champions League with the Ligue 1 giants, winning Euro 2024 would certainly improve his chances of winning the coveted award.

England midfielder Jude Bellingham, who had a fantastic debut season at Real Madrid, is also in the running for the Ballon d’Or. The 21-year-old scored 23 goals and provided 13 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions while also bagging La Liga and the Champions League with Los Blancos.

England captain Harry Kane also enjoyed a brilliant debut season with Bayern Munich, banging in 44 goals and providing 12 assists in 45 matches across all competitions. Although, the 30-year-old striker didn't win any titles with the Bundesliga giants this season, lifting the Euro 2024 trophy with the Three Lions wouldn't hurt his chances of claiming the award.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony is slated for October 28 at Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.
