“A bit like Robben, isn’t it?" - Rio Ferdinand blown away by what Arsenal star did in recent Euro 2024 clash

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand compared Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka to Arjen Robben after England's Euro 2024 quarter-final win against Switzerland on Saturday, July 6. The Three Lions won the game via penalties (5-3) after it ended 1-1 in extra time.

Switzerland drew first blood as Breel Embolo scored in the 75th minute. However, their lead was short-lived as Saka equalized with a spectacular goal just five minutes later.

The Arsenal ace cut inside on his left foot before launching a pinpoint effort that touched the post before wrapping into the back of the net. It was a strike of the highest quality and Ferdinand found similarities with legendary Dutch winger Robben.

He said on BBC (via The Boot Room):

"A bit like Robben, isn't it? You know he's going to come inside, but you can't stop him because he's so sharp and he is so decisive in that moment."

England were flawless in the penalties, with Saka converting the third shot for his team. It was somewhat of a redemption for the attacker, who missed his effort in the Euro 2020 final against Italy.

While Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the winning penalty, Switzerland's Manuel Akanji missed the only spot-kick in the shootout.

"It was special. Last time we had a penalty shootout at the Euros, we all know what happened. I have faith in god to come back from somrthing like that. I took the chance and I'm happy."

Saka came into the Euros after a stellar season with Arsenal where he scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists in 47 appearances across competitions. He has now scored his first goal at Euro 2024 as well.
