“A certain Portuguese forward should take note” - Cristiano Ronaldo told to take inspiration from Joe Biden and not sacrifice nation by journalist
A journalist has used USA President Joe Biden's situation to advise Portugal icon Cristiano Ronaldo to take a back seat from international football. Biden stepped down from the presidential race as the Democratic nominee on Sunday.
Biden shocked the world when he announced that he would not be running against Donald Trump in the US Presidential election in November. He nominated Vice President Kamala Harris to be the new Democratic nominee, as he prepares to possibly retire from politics.
Journalist Zach Lowy saw the event as an opportunity to send a message to Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, urging him to call time on his international career. Lowy posted a message on X/Twitter, lauding Biden for understanding that he could not continue and advising Ronaldo to do the same.
"Glad to see Joe Biden finally admitting that his body and mind have been devastated by Father Time and that he can’t risk sacrificing the future of the nation any longer. A certain Portuguese forward on Al-Nassr should take note," Lowy wrote.
Cristiano Ronaldo was part of Roberto Martinez's Portuguese squad that featured at Euro 2024 this summer. The 39-year-old failed to find the net once in the tournament, despite starting all of his country's games in Germany. He missed five big chances, including a penalty, in what was his sixth Euros appearance.
At club level, the star plundered 44 goals and 13 assists in 45 appearances for Al-Nassr across all competitions in 2023-24, setting a new record for goals in a Saudi league season.
On the international stage, however, he failed to score in a tournament for the first time in his career. Despite the depth of talent at the club, all indicators show that he is prepared to continue playing for the Selecao for the foreseeable future.
Cristiano Ronaldo spends time with family aboard luxury yacht
Cristiano Ronaldo was seen with his family aboard a luxury yacht in the Middle East following a grueling campaign in 2023-24. The Al-Nassr star continues his extended holidays after Portugal's quarter-final exit at the Euros in Germany.
Ronaldo returned to his base in Saudi Arabia and has been spending time with his family. In a photograph that was posted on Instagram by the legendary player, he can be seen standing beside his partner Georgina Rodriguez and his five children.
Cristiano Ronaldo will use the off-season to rest and get ready again ahead of the commencement of the 2024-25 season, as he aims for another stab at glory. The icon has failed to inspire his club to silverware since his arrival and will look to change that in the next season.
