“A nightmare for the opposition” - Lionel Messi receives massive praise from MLS legend after latest performance
MLS legend Sacha Kljestan has called Lionel Messi a nightmare for the opposition while showering praise over the Inter Miami star following his latest performance opposite Nashville SC.
Messi has been incredible for Inter Miami this season, with a direct contribution to 14 goals across nine appearances. Speaking after Miami's 3-1 win at home to Nashville SC on Sunday (April 21), Sacha Kljestan called Lionel Messi the star of the show.
"Lionel Messi was the star of the show [again] after his two-goal, one-assist performance. It's pretty fun to watch this GOAT play, especially when he's had a whole week to prepare. A healthy and rested Messi = a nightmare for the opposition," Kljestan wrote, via the MLS official website.
The Argentine icon joined Inter Miami in June 2023 on a free transfer from the French club Paris St-Germain. He has scored 10 goals and provided seven assists across all competitions since joining the club.
Lionel Messi was directly involved in all 3 goals Inter Miami scored against Nashville SC
On Sunday, Lionel Messi scored two goals and provided one assist in Inter Miami's match against Nashville SC. Nashville star Franco Negri opened the scoring in the second minute but Messi quickly equalized in the 11th minute. The goal came after a well-calculated assist from Luis Suarez.
The next goal in the match was scored by Inter Miami star Sergio Busquets, with Messi providing the assist in the 39th minute to give the home team the lead. Finally, La Pulga sealed the victory, scoring a penalty in the 81st minute and leading his team to a 3-1 victory.
Following his exceptional performance on Sunday night, Messi took to Instagram to share some photos of the night. He captioned the post:
"Vamos @intermiamicf."
This season, Messi has seven goals and three assists in six matches in the MLS alone despite missing five matches across all competitions due to injuries. Inter Miami currently sit atop the Eastern Conference with 18 points.
