"A player of his stature is going to give us a lot" - Real Madrid star believes Kylian Mbappe will make club 'candidates for everything again'
Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal believes that new signing Kylian Mbappe could have a huge influence on the club. Speaking to Spanish outlet AS, the right-back suggested that the French superstar could help the club win a lot of trophies.
He said:
“A player of his stature is going to give us a lot; and I think that by wearing our shirt, surrounded by very good players, he will make us candidates for everything again. Hopefully, that will be the case and we will continue to win titles.”
A drawn-out transfer saga between Mbappe and Real Madrid ended this summer when the 25-year-old finally joined the team. He was close to joining back in 2022 but eventually stayed and signed an extension at Paris Saint-Germain.
However, he declined to trigger an option to extend his contract by a further year, becoming a free agent this summer. He signed a five-year deal with Los Blancos. He looks to add more threat to an already potent attack including the likes of Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham.
Real Madrid defender opens up on chances of winning Ballon d'Or
Dani Carvajal has spoken about the 2024 Ballon d'Or race. He claimed that while he won La Liga, Supercopa de Espana, and the Champions League with Real Madrid, scoring goals is an important criterion for winning the trophy.
He said (via Spanish outlet AS):
"I really don’t even think about it. It’s true that I’ve had a great year, also in attack, with the goal in the Champions League final… If I do well at the European Championship, and if we win it, I can be on the shortlist. It wouldn’t be crazy.
"The most important thing is to score goals, it’s the most difficult thing. Vinicius and Bellingham have had a great year, Mbappe will be a candidate if France win the European Championship. I’m not even thinking about it. What I’m thinking about is going as far as possible at the European Championship and, if we can, being in the final in Berlin."
Real Madrid stars Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham look to be the leading candidates for the award, having performed admirably for throughout the season. New signing Kylian Mbappe is also at the forefront due to his performances with PSG.
However, Carvajal could come in as an underrated option to win the award. Should he win the Euros with Spain, his success both domestically and on the international stage would be hard to ignore.
