“A top club” - Liverpool midfielder signals desire to stay for many years under Arne Slot
Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has expressed his wish to stay at the club for a while under compatriot Arne Slot. The Dutch boss has succeeded Jurgen Klopp, who left at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Gravenberch, 22, made 38 appearances across competitions in the recently concluded season, contributing four goals and two assists, starting 21 times, having arrived from Bayern Munich in the summer.
With a deal till 2028, the midfielder has said that he's looking to stay at Anfield for a while as a new era starts under Slot. Gravenberch told ADnl (via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano):
“I hope to play here at Liverpool for years to come. It’s a top club. I’ve never spoken to Arne Slot, but he is a trainer who likes attacking football. That should suit me, you would think. We will see!”
In his first season at the Reds under Klopp, Gravenberch helped the club win the EFL Cup, reach the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup (lost to eventual winners Atalanta) and FA Cup (lost to eventual winners Manchester United) and third in the Premier League.
Liverpool announce Arne Slot has new head coach
Liverpool recently announced the appointment of Arne Slot as their new head coach. The Dutchman is set to formally assume charge on June 1.
Slot is fresh off a successful stint with Feyenoord, guiding them to the Eredivisie title in 2022-23 and the Dutch Cup in the recently concluded season. He will have big boots to fill, though, with his predecessor, Jurgen Klopp, leading the club to every title they competed for, except the UEFA Europa League.
In fact, Klopp wrote his name into Anfield folklore by ending the club's wait for a first league title in the Premier League era, leading the Reds to a dominant triumph in the COVID-19 affected season.
He also won the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup and a host of other trophies but fell short in two attempts to win the UEFA Europa League. After falling to Sevilla in the final in his first season in charge in 2015-16, Klopp's side fell to Atalanta 3-1 on aggregate in the quarterfinals this year.
