Aaron Ramsdale’s father celebrates with post on X after Bournemouth beat Arsenal

The father of former Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramdsale took to X to celebrate Bournemouth defeating the Gunners in the Premier League on Saturday (October 19). The Cherries picked up a deserved 2-0 win over a 10-man Arsenal side that looked shorn of creative ideas or chances.

Ramdsale exited the Emirates Stadium this summer after spending nearly the entirety of the 2023-24 season on the bench at the club. Formerly of Bournemouth, the Englishman found himself pushed out of the squad by the arrival of David Raya, initially on loan, from Brentford.

Ramsdale's father, Nick, watched closely as two of his son's former sides faced each other at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday. After the Cherries scored, he posted a celebratory message on X.

"BACK OF THE NET BOSCOMBE!!!!!!!!"

The post refers to Boscombe, the original name of AFC Bournemouth, and the chant he posted is one commonly used by the club's fans. Boscombe itself is the suburb of Bournemouth where the Vitality Stadium is located, leading to its affiliation with the club.

Mikel Arteta opted to trust Spanish goalkeeper Raya over Ramsdale in the 2023-24 season after sanctioning the signing of Raya on loan. The manager's decision was justified, seeing as the former Brentford man won the league's Golden Glove in his debut season at the Emirates.

Aaron Ramsdale was unhappy with his situation at Arsenal and sought a move away from the club. Amid a number of opportunities to leave, the Englishman chose to sign with newly promoted Southampton, where he has played six times in the Premier League this season. That's the same number of league appearances he made for the Gunners in the 2023-24 season.

Bournemouth shock Arsenal as Premier League title race heats up

Bournemouth ended Arsenal's 13-game unbeaten run in the Premier League with a 2-0 win over the Gunners at the Vitality Stadium. The Cherries also handed the Gunners a first away defeat of 2024 in the Premier League, ending their impressive run.

Arsenal were reduced to ten men in the 30th minute when William Saliba was shown the first red card of his career for a last-man foul. The Gunners received a third sending off in eight league games this season, a worrying trend for their team.

Bournemouth took the lead through Ryan Christie after a perfect set-piece routine in the 70th minute. They sealed their win nine minutes later when Evanilson won a penalty, which was tucked home by Justin Kluivert.
