"Ain't been the same this season", "This guy is brainless" - Fans call out Manchester United star for 'stupid' moment against Spurs
Fans have questioned Manchester United superstar Bruno Fernandes for picking up a red card in their Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur. The Red Devils invited Spurs to Old Trafford on September 29, and the visitors won 3-0. Things went from bad to worse for the hosts, as they went a man down in the 42nd minute.
Bruno Fernandes lunged into a tackle on James Maddison, catching him high in the shin while the Tottenham playmaker looked to start a counter-attack. The Manchester United captain might argue that his high foot on Maddison's leg was only because he slipped on the turf with his other foot. However, referee Chris Kavanaugh issued him a straight red on the cusp of half-time.
Fans took to social media afterward to slam the Manchester United playmaker for picking up a red card with posts like these:
"Bruno ain’t been the same this season. no way a red. no dangerous and slipped. what a joke," a fan disagreed with the red card.
"This Bruno guy is brainless," another was angry with the playmaker.
"He did, and he also kicked at Maddison as he was slipping. Stupid Bruno," another fan added.
"Bruno was stupid to do that challenge. Personally for me it is a yellow but definitely understandable that red is given considering the height of his foot." this fan agreed with the red card.
"That's United's captain 🙏. Sigh, I am not sure whether that's 100% a red card but that was stupid from Bruno. You are the captain, mate. What was the need of that tackle? Ridiculous decision making from the Portuguese. Just 2 mins left for HT." a fan was not happy.
"It's a red, very high, studs up, stupid from Bruno really," another concluded.
"Bruno you brain-dead stupid useless waste man. Palmer scored 4 goals in one half. Your response is to get sent off instead!!!!! Good job mate [thumbs up emojis]," another fan was angry.
Manchester United will play without Bruno Fernandes for three games: Reports
BBC Sport football reporter Simon Stone has revealed that Bruno Fernandes will be suspended for a total of three games, following his straight red card. The reporter posted on social media platform X:
"Bruno Fernandes will miss Villa, Brentford and West Ham."
Manchester United have a Europa League match against Porto away on October 3, but Fernandes will be able to play that game. However, this will be his last Premier League match for a while.
Manchester United will play Aston Villa on October 6, go for the international break, then return to play Brentford on October 19. Aside from a Europa League match against Fenerbache on October 24, they face West Ham United on October 27. This means Fernandes will return to league football in November.
