Alan Shearer refuses to pick any Arsenal or Manchester City star as he names Premier League team of the season so far

Alan Shearer has not picked any player from Arsenal and Manchester City in his Premier League Team of the Season so far. The Hall of Famer has gone with a 4-3-3- formation for the XI and named one player from outside the Top 10.

Starting with the goalkeeper, Shearer has picked Matz Sels as his best this season. He believes that the Nottingham Forest star has pulled off vital saves to help the club sit sixth in the league table. He said via Premier League:

"Outstanding all season, pulling off some vital stops and commanding the box so well for a Forest side who have the second-best defensive record in the league."

In defense, Shearer has picked two Liverpool players – Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk – along with Nikola Milenkovic of Nottingham Forest and Antonee Robinson from Fulham.

Shearer has picked Chelsea duo Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer in his midfield with Liverpool's Ryan Gravenberch. He believes that the trio has been exceptional this season and are showing their potential in every match.

Bryan Mbeumo is the only player from a team outside the top 10 to make the Team of the Season so far. Shearer stated that the Brentford star has taken his game to another level and thus had to be included over the likes of Bukayo Saka and Savinho.

He said:

"Has taken his game to another level this season, and has proven to be unstoppable at the Gtech Stadium, scoring or assisting in all six of his home matches."

Nottingham Forest's Chris Wood leads the attack in Shearer's team with Liverpool star Mohamed Salah playing from the left wing.

Arsenal sit 4th in the Premier League table this season

Arsenal finished second in back-to-back seasons in the Premier League but have not made the best of starts this season. They are sitting fourth in the league – nine points behind leaders Liverpool and four behind champions Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta's side drew to Chelsea last weekend at Stamford Bridge and missed the chance to close the gap on the top two. The result also saw them sit a place behind the Blues in the table despite being level on points because of the goal difference.

After the international break, Arsenal are up against Nottingham Forest, who are also level on points with the Gunners and sit a place below them. They face West Ham United, Manchester United, Fulham, and Everton in the league before the busy festive period begins.
