Alan Shearer urges Gareth Southgate to make one key change to England's starting XI against Spain in EURO 2024 final

Former England striker Alan Shearer reckons Gareth Southgate will make one change in the starting XI for their EURO 2024 final against Spain. He believes he should start Luke Shaw at left-back over Kieran Trippier.

The Three Lions will take on La Roja in the summit clash at Olympiastadion Berlin on Sunday, July 14. They reached the final in the previous edition as well but lost against Italy on penalties. England are looking to win their first-ever Euros trophy while Spain are looking to lift their fourth.

Ahead of the final, Premier League's all-time top scorer Alan Shearer (260 goals) has urged Gareth Southgate to bring in Luke Shaw for Kieran Trippier. He wrote in Betting.Betfair:

"I'd keep the same team as the one against Netherlands, but I'd bring Luke Shaw back in from the start. The call to start Trippier last time out must have been so tight for Southgate after Shaw came back for half an hour before that, he may have sided on the air of caution, but I think he'll go with Shaw this time and keep the rest of the team the same."

Southgate chose to include Shaw in England's EURO 2024 squad despite doubts over his fitness. The Manchester United left-back didn't feature in the first four games but made substitute appearances in the next two.

England manager provides Kieran Trippier injury update ahead of EURO 2024 final against Spain

Gareth Southgate has provided an injury update on Kieran Trippier ahead of their EURO 2024 final against Spain. Trippier started England's semi-final clash against the Netherlands but was substituted in the second half for Luke Shaw.

After the game, Southgate said:

“We didn’t want to take any chances. We had it in our minds that we would bring Luke into the game at some point. It was better to bring him into the game than to start the game and not be able to finish it.
“We’ll have to see how Tripps is. He’s been an absolute soldier for us. To fill in the way he has, on the wrong side of the pitch, with the injuries he’s had coming into the tournament, is exceptional.”

Trippier has started all six games for his side at EURO 2024. However, he appears likely to make way for Luke Shaw in the final against Spain.
