Alejandro Garnacho and Cole Palmer hail Manchester United man's performance in international clash on social media
Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho and Chelsea star Cole Plamer lauded the performances of Kobbie Mainoo against the Netherlands. The Manchester United midfielder played a vital role for the Three Lions as they beat the Dutch 2-1 on Wednesday (July 10) in the Euro 2024 semifinal.
Mainoo delivered an impressive performance, bossing in the midfield before he was taken off for Conor Gallagher in the dying minutes of the match. On the night he became the youngest player to play in a semi-final at a major tournament for England. The 19-year-old put up terrific numbers, recording 100% completed long passes, 100% duels won, and 100% tackles won.
Post-game, Mainoo took to Instagram to celebrate England's semi-final win over the Netherlands. He posted a series of pictures with the caption "1 more" in anticipation of Sunday's Euro 2024 final showdown against Spain in Berlin.
Reacting to Mainoo's post were Garnacho and Palmer. The Argentine hailed his fellow Manchester United teammate calling him:
"Main man"
Similarly, Palmer acknowledged his national team colleague's post, writing:
"My boy one more!!"
Mainoo, Palmer, and Garnacho hope to wrap up their campaigns on a high by winning their respective continental championships with their national teams. England will battle Spain for the European Championship on July 14, while Argentina trade tackles with Colombia for the Copa America later that same day.
Gareth Southgate heaps praise on Manchester United youngster Kobbie Maninoo after outstanding performance against the Netherlands
Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate was impressed with Kobbie Mainoo's performance against the Netherlands on Wednesday. Mainoo, who started for England for the third game in a row, was a midfield monster against the Dutch. He won the second ball, made progressive passes, and dictated the pace of the game from the middle.
During his post-match conference, the England manager admitted his team hasn't had a player with the abilities of the Manchester United youngster. He said (via Manchester Evening News):
"I think all of his performances have been exceptional, especially when you consider his age. We haven't really had a player like him until now. "It makes such a difference when your midfield players can receive [the ball] pressed and turn with the ball so easily and comfortably. It looks simple when he does it, but it isn't simple."
After an exceptional performance, Mainoo is in a prime position to secure his spot in the starting XI as they aim to capture their first-ever European championship.
