Alejandro Garnacho and Darwin Nunez send message to Manchester United winger as he stars for country in friendly fixture
Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri has received warm messages from teammates Alejandro Garnacho and Darwin Nunez. The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Granada, but he is teammates with Garnacho at Old Trafford, and plays alongside Nunez for the Uruguay national team.
In their latest friendly on June 6, Uruguay handed Mexico an impressive 4-0 beating, with both Nunez and Pellistri making their mark in the game. While Nunez scored an impressive hat-trick, Pellistri got on the scoresheet and provided an assist for the Liverpool striker.
After the game, Pellistri took to social media to share his happiness with the result, with Garnacho and Nunez responding:
Pellistri joined Manchester United in 2020, but so far, he has failed to secure a berth in the starting lineup. His performances have not been enough to keep him at Old Trafford, with the club sending him out on regular loans, most recently to Granada.
However, Pellistri has continued to impress with the Uruguay national team, making 20 caps for the South American side. So far with the Red Devils, he has made 24 appearances in all competitions, including three games in the UEFA Champions League.
Manchester United legend sees injured defender is "big loss" for England ahead of the EUROs
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has termed Harry Maguire's absence from England's EUROs squad as a huge loss for head coach Gareth Southgate. The 31-year-old has been a staple in the heart of the Three Lions' defense, making an impressive 63 caps since his debut in October 2017.
Maguire would likely have made it into this squad, but he is currently out of contention due to injury. Rooney talked about how much England missed him in defense on June 6 as they lost 1-0 to Iceland at Wembley. The legendary striker said (via Metro):
"Tonight, the back line were a little bit disjointed at times and that’s through a lack of experience and again, that’s something I’m sure Gareth and the coaches will be showing them... I think tonight actually shows the importance of Harry Maguire to this England team and what a big loss he is to the squad."
While Maguire's absence is a cause for concern for the England squad, they are now set for their trip to Germany, where they will partake in the EUROs. They will face Serbia, Denmark, and Slovenia in the group stages without the Manchester United defender, but they will hope to go far in the tournament either way.
