Football fans on social media have reacted to reports that Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign teenage goalkeeper Mike Penders from Belgian side Genk. The Blues have been very active in the transfer market this summer.
Since the takeover by Clearlake Capital in 2022, the Blues have targeted young talents from across the world in every position. This summer, the club already sealed the signing of 17-year-old Brazilian wonderkid Estevao Willian in addition to eight permanent additions to their squad.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano previously reported that the Blues are interested in 19-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Penders, who has been likened to Thibaut Courtois. On Thursday, August 8, Romano reported that the Blues have reached an agreement with Genk to sign the teenager for €20 million. Penders will remain with Genk until the end of the 2024-25 season before he moves to England in June 2025.
Fans of clubs in England, Chelsea included, marveled at the Blues' activity in the market. The Blues have already signed Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal this summer and have Roberto Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic in their ranks.

Mike Penders is highly rated within Belgian football circles, and many have predicted that he will be a success at Stamford Bridge. Standing at an impressive six feet six inches, the youngster made his senior debut in July.
Chelsea nearing agreement for Brazilian wonderkid - Reports
Chelsea are closing in on an agreement to sign Brazilian youngster Gabriel Mec this summer, as per Fabrizio Romano. The Blues are continuing with their strategy of signing young players, and Gremio teenager Mec is expected to be their next addition.
Despite being just 16, Gabriel Mec is regarded as the biggest talent from Gremio's academy since Ronaldinho. The youngster is known for his brilliant technical qualities as well as his keen eye for goal as an attacking midfielder/left winger.
If Chelsea agree a deal for Mec, he is expected to join them once he turns 18 in 2026.
