Alphonso Davies chooses ex-Real Madrid star over Barcelona icon Andres Iniesta in GOAT challenge

Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies has chosen a former Real Madrid attacker over Barcelona icon Andreas Iniesta in a GOAT challenge. When asked to pick between the Spaniard and Eden Hazard, the Canadian picked the latter over the World Cup winner.

The 23-year-old full-back has spent most of his senior career with Bayern Munich, where he has played 195 games, scoring 11 and assisting 31 goals. He has won five Bundesliga titles, two DFB Pokal Cups, three German Super Cups, one FIFAClub World Cup, and one each of the UEFA Champions League and Supercup.

When asked to pick the better player between Eden Hazard and Andres Iniesta on the TSN YouTube channel, he picked Eden Hazard.

Andres Iniesta is a legendary figure in Barcelona and Spain, being a key part of the most successful periods for both. He played 674 games for Blaugrana, scoring 57 and assisting 136 while making 131 appearances for La Roja and scoring 14 while assisting 30 goals.

Eden Hazard is better known for his time at Chelsea where he was a phenomenal dribbler while his time at Real Madrid was blighted by injury. He made 76 appearances for Los Blancos, scoring seven and assisting 12.

Throwback to when Barcelona legend Lionel Messi hailed ex-Real Madrid star

Back in 2019, Barcelona legend Lionel Messi spoke highly of then-Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard in the build-up to El Classico. The Belgian star joined Los Blancos in 2019 for €120 million but had a tough time with injuries.

In an interview with Marca's Luis F. Rojo, Lionel Messi was asked if the Belgian could be a fitting replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo to which he replied (via Bleacher Report):

"Hazard has a lot of quality. He is a different football player who can unbalance [defences], but I think he is different to Cristiano, with different characteristics. It is very difficult to replace Cristiano, but Hazard is also a great player."

The Barcelona legend's wishes did not help Hazard have a successful career with Real Madrid, with injuries seeing him feature irregularly for the Spanish giants. The Belgian star retired in 2023 after leaving Los Blancos.
