Amad Diallo makes social media post after starring for Manchester United in pre-season win over Real Betis
Amad Diallo was evidently pleased with Manchester United's 3-2 pre-season friendly win against Real Betis on Wednesday (July 31). A few hours after the full-time whistle at the Snapdragon Stadium in California, the Ivorian took to his X account to post a collage of photos from the match.
One photo shows him seemingly applauding the Manchester United fans while the others depict him celebrating with his teammates. He captioned the post 'Together 💪🏾⚔️🤩', perhaps as a way to showcase the team spirit and unity among the members.
Diallo's tweet can be viewed below:
Diallo was arguably the star of the match against Real Betis. His dizzying run drew a challenge from a Betis defender, resulting in a penalty kick that was dispatched by Marcus Rashford in the 18th minute to open the scoring.
Six minutes later, Diallo scored the second with a left-footed volleyed finish after receiving a deflected cross from Harry Amass from the left flank. Around the half-hour mark, the 22-year-old winger's corner kick found its way to Rashford, who assisted Casemiro's close-range strike to make it 3-1 on the day.
Diego Llorente halved the deficit in the 61st minute but it wasn't enough to stop the Red Devils from winning the match. Apart from his tangent contributions, Diallo completed two of his three dribbles, won three fouls, and completed 92% of his 24 attempted passes in his 62 minutes on the pitch.
Amad Diallo 'motivated' to start new season at Manchester United
Three and a half years on from his £37 million transfer, Amad Diallo finds himself at a place where he would have wanted to be from the start. He is a genuine contender for a place in Erik ten Hag's XI after featuring in each of their last seven Premier League games in the 2023-24 season.
The former Atalanta winger boasts pace, dribbling skills, and an intent to drive the team forward which makes him a dynamic option to have down both flanks. Speaking before his team's pre-season win against Real Betis, he expressed his belief in the manager and spoke of the season that lay ahead of him.
He said, via Manchester Evening News:
"I am so motivated to start the season, I'm so excited, I believe in the manager. Last season, I know [I] didn't play a lot but this season is going to be a good season for everyone and I'm so motivated to start the season."
Diallo's words convey that he is eager to play a big part in Manchester United's start to the 2024-25 season. A serious knee injury sidelined him for a huge chunk of last season as he finished the campaign with two goals and an assist in 12 games across competitions.
If Marcus Rashford and Antony's injuries turn out to be serious, there is a huge possibility that Diallo starts the new campaign as a regular starter.
