“And counting” - Real Madrid legend drops comment after Cristiano Ronaldo scores for Al-Nassr in win vs Al Rayyan

Real Madrid legend Marcelo has commented on Cristiano Ronaldo's Instagram post after Al-Nassr beat Al Rayyan in the AFC Champions League. The Saudi club beat their Qatari opponents 2-1 on Monday, September 30.

Sadio Mane got on the scoresheet in first-half injury time (45+1') while the Portuguese ace scored in the second half (76') with an excellent left-footed finish. With that strike, Cristiano Ronaldo has extended his record as the top goalscorer of all time with 904 goals.

After the game, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner took to social media to celebrate his victory, posting pictures of him and his teammates in the encounter with a caption that read:

"Hard work pays off. Let’s keep going!"

Marcelo commented on his former teammate's post and congratulated him on extending his record. He wrote:

Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo spent nine years as teammates at Real Madrid, winning four Champions League and two La Liga titles together among other honors. The Brazilian won another Champions League with Los Blancos after Ronaldo's departure in 2018.

The pair played an instrumental role in Real Madrid's iconic three-peat Champions League run between 2015 and 2018 under former manager Zinedine Zidane. Marcelo and Ronaldo have 33 joint goal contributions in 332 matches during their time together in the Spanish capital (via Transfermarkt).

Marcelo plays for Brazilian Serie A side Fluminense, with his contract set to expire in December.

Former Real Madrid star claims Cristiano Ronaldo 'doesn't know how to play football' in astonishing rant

Former Real Madrid forward Antonio Cassano bizarrely lashed out at Cristiano Ronaldo for merely being a goalscorer. The Italian shockingly claimed that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is unaware of how to play the game.

Speaking on the Viva El Futbol podcast, Cassano said (via GOAL):

“Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't know how to play football. He could score 3000 goals, I don't give a f**k."

Cassano then compared the Portuguese great with the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Sergio Aguero, Luis Suarez, and Karim Benzema. He claimed the star strikers could perform cohesively with the team instead of just scoring goals, unlike Ronaldo.

"[Gonzalo] Higuain, [Sergio] Aguero, [Karim] Benzema, [Robert] Lewandowski, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and [Luis] Suarez knew how to link-up with the team. They knew how to do a lot of things, unlike Ronaldo whose only objective has always been to score,” he added.

Ronaldo scored 450 goals in 438 appearances across competitions for Real Madrid and is the club's record goalscorer.
