Angel Di Maria equals Cristiano Ronaldo milestone after 2024 Copa America triumph with Argentina

Angel Di Maria has equaled Cristiano Ronaldo's in the number of trophies won after helping Argentina retain their Copa America title on Sunday, July 14. The tournament win was the former Real Madrid star's 35th trophy of an illustrious career, who retired from international football.

His 35 accolades include a World Cup, two Copa Americas, Olympic Gold, a UEFA Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup, two Copa Del Reys, one Spanish Super Cup, five French cups, Super Cups, and Ligue One titles, four French League Cups, two Portuguese League Cups, one Portuguese League and Super Cup, the U-20 World Cup and the Finalissima.

Di Maria has won most of his trophies at the club level with Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Benfica, failing to win any with Manchester United, Juventus, and his boyhood club Rosario Central. The Argentine is currently without a club, affecting his chances of moving past Cristiano Ronaldo in the trophies won list.

Lionel Messi currently has won the most trophies with 45.

When Angel Di Maria snubbed Cristiano Ronaldo for his dream team

Earlier this year, Angel Di Maria picked a dream team of players he has played alongside but snubbed Cristiano Ronaldo. The pair played 166 games together at Real Madrid, with the Argentine scoring three times from Ronaldo's assists, while in turn, he assisted the Portuguese legend 25 times.

Speaking in the interview with Marca, the Argentine World Cup winner said of his selection (via The Daily Mail):

"I had the opportunity to play with so many and have that privilege that sometimes if they don't ask me a question like that I don't start thinking about who I played with and the truth is that it is crazy if I have to put myself together. I could easily put together two all-star teams,"

This is the team that the Argentine star picked: Emi Martinez, Sergio Ramos, Nicolas Otamendi, Marcelo, Javier Mascherano, Rui Costa, Lionel Messi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe.

Cristiano Ronaldo was not the only notable omission from Di Maria's team, with the former Real Madrid midfielder opting to select a team without a natural right-back.
