When Lionel Messi admitted that wife Antonela Roccuzzo means "everything" to him
In a June 2024 interview ahead of Copa America, Lionel Messi spoke to ESPN journalist Martino Arevalo about how much his wife Antonela Roccuzzo means to him.
"Defining everything she means to me… anything I say will fall short. She is very important and she is everything for me," Leo said.
Messi and Antonela have known each other since childhood. The Argentine knew Antonela's cousin, Lucas Scaglia, when he was young and it is at his house that he first met his future wife. When the two first met, Leo was nine years old while Antonela was eight.
SPORT also reported that Antonela Roccuzzo's cousin Lucas Scaglia used to play alongside Lionel Messi during their time in Newell's Old Boys youth system. The two reportedly officially began dating sometime in 2009. In 2010, Roccuzzo moved in with Messi at Barcelona.
The couple welcomed their first child, Thiago Messi, in 2012 and their second child, Mateo Messi in 2015. Lionel Messi and Antonela Roccuzzo officially tied the knot in June 2017 in their hometown, Rosario in Argentina. The following year, the couple welcomed their youngest son, Ciro.
