Antony to leave Manchester United? Fabrizio Romano gives an update on potential loan departure

Fabrizio Romano claims Antony won't leave Manchester United on loan before the transfer window closes. There were suggestions that the Brazilian could head to La Liga on deadline day (August 30), but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Transfer expert Romano gave an update on Antony's situation, and the Brazilian winger looks set to stay at Old Trafford. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

"Antony to Real Betis on loan is not happening, despite reports. He wants to stay at Manchester United."

Antony, 24, has struggled since joining the Red Devils from Ajax in August 2022 in a reported £86 million deal. He became the club's second-most expensive signing but has failed to live up to the hype.

The Brazil international has managed 11 goals and five assists in 83 games across competitions. He's lost his place in United's starting XI, with Erik ten Hag preferring Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo.

La Liga outfit Real Betis reportedly showed interest in signing Antony and Christian Eriksen on loan. Romano hasn't clarified the situation regarding the Danish midfielder but has seemingly ruled out the winger's departure.

Antony's agent, Junior Pedroso, insisted his client wanted to remain at Manchester United when speaking earlier this summer. He said (via Romano):

"I see reports about potential exit on loan. Antony's plan is clear: Manchester United. He wants to stay, he's only focused on Man United. We already spoke about that with the club."

Antony has just over two years left on his contract with the Red Devils. He's made one one-minute cameo appearance off the bench so far this season.

Manchester United's transfer business isn't over, and Jadon Sancho's future is the hot topic of discussion. The English winger is heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, and it looks like a deal could happen.

Romano reports that the Blues have offered United two proposals. One is a loan with a buy option, and another is a loan with an obligation to buy, but both on different terms.

Sancho, 24, has given the green light on a move to Stamford Bridge, and the Red Devils will now decide whether to accept. Ten Hag suggested he was happy to keep the England international when speaking on deadline day.

The duo made amends after their fiery fallout last season, which led to a brief loan spell back at Borussia Dortmund. He's struggled throughout his United stay, managing 12 goals and six assists in 83 games across competitions.
