Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni receives 1 game suspension, set to miss country's Copa America clash against Peru
Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has been handed a one-match suspension by CONEMBOL due to delays in restarting games. Scaloni has also been fined and will miss the game against Peru. As per TyC Sport, Pablo Aimar will be in charge of La Albiceleste during the Peru game.
La Albiceleste have started their Copa America 2024 campaign with two back-to-back wins. After defeating Canada 2-0, they managed a 1-0 win against Chile. The reigning South American and world champions will play Peru on June 28.
Scaloni, though, will not be on the sidelines for the game with assistant coach Aimar being in charge of Lionel Messi and Co.
According to Gaston Edul, Messi will not play against Peru as well. The Argentina captain is struggling with fitness and wants to rest to play in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Messi has missed a few big chances in the first two Copa America games. However, his creative side has been on display as the 37-year-old has come up with some crucial passes for his teammates.
Despite Messi and Scaloni's absence, La Albiceleste are expected to get past Peru. With Julian Alvarez, Lautaro Martinez, Angel Di Maria, and other attacking players available, Argentina could prove to be a handful to deal with for Peru.
Lionel Scaloni reveals why Alejandro Garnacho hasn't played for Argentina at Copa America 2024 yet
Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has revealed why Alejandro Garnacho hasn't featured for Argentina at Copa America 2024 yet. Scaloni said he has a tough choice to make as he has to take someone out of the team.
Speaking to the reporters, he said (via The Peoples Person):
"He still hasn't had the opportunity, but we hope to give it to him and that he can take advantage of it. Of he does it well he makes it difficult for both the coach and his teammate."
With Lionel Messi being a fitness doubt and Argentina's qualification for the knockout stages already secured, Garnacho could feature in the game against Peru.
Garnacho had a good season with his club Manchester United, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists in 50 matches for the Red Devils.
