Arsenal are targeting a move for former Manchester City forward Leroy Sane once his contract with Bayern Munich runs out in the summer. The Gunners are among a host of English Premier League sides looking to get the Germany international to return to English football next summer.
Sane has been with Bayern Munich in his native Germany since 2020, when he left Manchester City for the Bavarian giants. The forward is set to run out of his contract at the Allianz Arena in 2025. With no extension in sight, he will be eligible to reach a pre-contract agreement with clubs in January.
Arsenal have a long-standing interest in Leroy Sane, having unsuccessfully tried to sign him in the summer. Football Insider reports that the Gunners are keeping close tabs on any developments that may occur on the player's side as they remain interested in signing him.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is familiar with the 28-year-old Germany international from his days as an assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. The manager has been accused of prioritizing defensive depth over attacking depth, and the signing of Sane would help dispel some of those notions.
Leroy Sane is capable of being deployed on either flank and will be a good option for the side due to his experience and quality. The former Schalke 04 man has lost his place in the Bayern Munich starting XI to Michael Olise, who joined the club from Crystal Palace this season.
Sane has contributed two goals in seven appearances for Bayern Munich this season and has played just 159 minutes for the side. The forward may be keen on a move elsewhere, with Newcastle United another side interested in signing him as a free agent.
