Arsenal linked with €50m move for Serie A star as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen attack: Reports
Arsenal have reportedly shown interest in signing Mateo Retegui from Serie A side Atalanta in the next summer transfer window, as per Caught Offside. Manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his desire to strengthen his team's attack, and Retegui, who has been valued at €50m by Atalanta, fits into his scheme.
It is to be noted that Arsenal have been closely following Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres for a long time, and are keen on bringing him on board as well. However, with Retegui now in the picture, it will be interesting to see whom the Gunners choose to go with eventually.
Retegui has been in excellent form this season, and has scored on 11 occasions in 12 matches in the Serie A already. The 25-year-old forward arrived at Atalanta from Genoa earlier this year and has become a fan favorite with his antics in his team's final third already.
Arsenal will be keen on bringing Retegui to the Emirates, but the high price tag that Atalanta have put on him might deter them. However, with the Gunners struggling to find decent goalscorers, they might shell out the money to boost their attacking prospects.
Atalanta will not be very keen on parting with Retegui given that he just arrived at the club, but Arsenal's financial intentions may tilt the balance in their favor. The Gunners have scored 18 goals in the Premier League this season, but manager Arteta will be keen on bolstering his choices up front.
Arsenal jump to fourth spot in the Premier League table after draw with Chelsea
Arsenal played out an interesting 1-1 draw with London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, November 10, and jumped up to the fourth position of the Premier League table. They now have 19 points to their name after 11 matches. They have, however, won just five games this season.
After the international break, Arteta's men will be keen on getting on a roll and challenging for the top position of the Premier League. Their first match will be against fifth-placed Nottingham Forest on November 23.
At the moment, Arsenal are overshadowed by Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea, who have 28, 23 and 19 points inside their respective kitties.
