Arsenal paying stunningly low wages to Raheem Sterling after loan move from Chelsea: Reports
As per Football Insider, Mikel Arteta's Arsenal are reportedly paying Raheem Sterling less than half of the £350,000-a-week he was earning at Chelsea following his loan deal. The 29-year-old joined the Gunners on a season-long loan on deadline day (August 30).
Sterling joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2022 for a reported transfer fee of £47.5 million. He made 81 appearances for the Blues across all competitions, bagging 19 goals and 12 assists. However, he's not in the plans of Enzo Maresca, as the Italian manager made it clear that he prefers a different type of winger.
Last week, Maresca stated during a press conference before Chelsea's UEFA Conference League play-off match against Servette that he had told Sterling he wouldn't get any minutes if he stayed at the club. He said (via BBC Sport):
"Raheem is a fantastic guy who has trained very well. Every manager has a different idea, and he is the kind of winger that is not one that I like. History and numbers speak for Raheem. He knows exactly what he needs to do."
Sterling was also a part of Manchester City from 2015 to 2022, where he made 339 appearances, bagging 131 goals and 73 assists. He won four Premier League titles, five League Cups, and the FA Cup with the Cityzens.
Manchester United legend thinks 24-year-old Englishman would have been perfect fit for Arsenal
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has opined that Jadon Sancho would have been a perfect fit for Arsenal as well as Manchester City.
Sancho joined Chelsea on a loan deal from Manchester United on deadline day. The deal includes a clause that would allow the Blues to sign the Englishman permanently next summer for a reported fee of £20–25 million. Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel:
"United became almost a transition team and that's not how Jadon sees or plays football. He's a different footballer; that's not his game. He showed back at Dortmund what he can do, but it's good for him to get out and play football."
He added:
"If Jadon was at Man City or Arsenal right now, you'd get a better representation of what Jadon Sancho is because of the way he plays football and the way those teams play football."
The 24-year-old joined United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. However, he struggled for consistency at Old Trafford and fell back in the pecking order. He then had a rift with Erik ten Hag and found himself on the sidelines.
