Arsenal star slammed by national media for performance in Euro 2024 clash, given 4/10 match rating
Arsenal attacker Leandro Trossard has been criticised by the Belgian media for his performance in Belgium's goalless Euro 2024 draw with Ukraine in Stuttgart on Wednesday (June 27), which sealed their place in the knockouts.
Trossard, 29, started for Domenico Tedesco's side but delivered an underwhelming performance before he was taken off after 64 minutes as the Red Devils sought a winner to win the group.
While two other Belgian players - Kevin De Bruyne and Amadou Onana - received praise from the Belgian media, Trossard wasn't as lucky. Voetbal Primeur (as per HITC) gave Trossard a 4/10 for his performance in the goalless stalemate with Ukraine, explaining:
“Due to the suspension of Dodi Lukebakio, Trossard had another chance to prove himself. “(He) clearly wanted to do that too, although there were occasional communication problems with Theate and Castagne, among others. Lukebakio seems to be preferred again in the next game.”
Tedesco's side finished behind group winners Romania, who drew 1-1 with Slovakia in the other group game. In a first in European Championship history, all four sides in the group finished with four points, with Romania finishing ahead of Belgium and Slovakia - in that order - while Ukraine were eliminated.
It's pertinent to note that Andriy Shevchenko's side garnered more points than Denmark and Slovenia, who qualified for the knockouts with just three points.
How many Arsenal players are still active at Euro 2024?
Arsenal have had one of the largest Premier League contingents - 11 players - at Euro 2024. Out of that group, three have exited following the end of the group stage.
The trio are Jakub Kiwior of Poland, Kieran Tierney of Scotland and Oleksandr Zinchenko of Ukraine, with all three sides crashing out of knockout reckoning after finishing fourth in their respective group.
Among the eight Gunners players still active at Euro 2024 are Belgium's Trossard - who will be in Round of 16 action against France, and the England trio of Aaron Ramsdale, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka, who will be in action against Slovakia.
The others are France's William Saliba, Germany's Kai Havertz, Italy's Jorginho and Spain's David Raya, who will be respectively up against Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland and Georgia.
