Arsenal superstar shuts down rumors linking him with a summer move away from the club

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale looks to have poured cold water on suggestions he's set to join Newcastle United this summer. The English shot-stopper has lost his No.1 spot at the Emirates leading to uncertainty over his future.

Ramsdale gave a telling response to the speculation with a post on X (formerly Twitter):

"News to me (laughing emoji)."

Sky Sports journalist James Green had claimed Ramsdale had agreed to join Newcastle in the summer transfer window. He said he'd spoken to somebody close to his agent and was informed that a deal was completed.

Ramsdale, 26, has slipped down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta this season despite impressing during the 2022-23 campaign. He's appeared just 11 times across competitions, keeping three clean sheets.

The former Sheffield United shot-stopper admitted earlier this season that his lack of game time was concerning. He is eager to head to Germany with England for this summer's European Championships.

Ramsdale joined Arsenal from the Blades for £30 million in August 2021. He's appeared 89 times across competitions since then and kept 32 clean sheets.

The Englishman's future is the hot topic of speculation heading into the summer. Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly another Premier League club monitoring him.

David Seaman urges Aaron Ramsdale to leave Arsenal and join either Chelsea or West Ham United

David Seaman doesn't think Ramsdale can continue much longer as Arsenal's No.2. The iconic former Gunners goalkeeper doesn't want to lose the four-cap England international but wants him to develop (via Metro):

"You aren’t going to develop being a number two. As an Arsenal fan, I don’t really want Aaron Ramsdale to go. But then as an ex England goalkeeper, I want to see another keeper developing."

Seaman suggested that Ramsdale stays in London and joins either Chelsea or West Ham:

"I think he could go to somewhere like Chelsea to give himself a better shot of getting first team action. I think there are a few clubs who he would suit, maybe someone like West Ham too."

Chelsea's goalkeeping situation is an interesting one as Djordje Petrovic has ousted Robert Sanchez as Mauricio Pochettino's No.1. The Serbian was initially signed as development talent but has displaced the Spaniard.

Ramsdale may feel that a move across London to either of those clubs gives him the best chance of more game time. It's easy to forget he was named in the 2022-23 Premier League Team of the Year after keeping 14 clean sheets in 38 games.
