Arsenal Transfer News Roundup: Gunners eyeing Everton ace, club want Ousmane Diomande, and more - June 7, 2024
Arsenal are working to improve their squad ahead of the new campaign. Mikel Arteta's team have gone from strength to strength in recent times and have finished second in the league in the last two seasons.
The Gunners are interested in an Everton midfielder. Elsewhere, the north London side have set their sights on Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande.
On that note, let's look at the major Arsenal transfer news from June 7, 2024.
Arsenal eyeing Everton ace, says Fabrizio Romano
Arsenal have set their sights on Amadou Onana, according to acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Belgian midfielder has earned rave reviews with his efforts for Everton, registering three goals and one assist from 37 outings.
The Gunners are looking for a new face to partner Declan Rice in the middle of the park. Thomas Partey's future hangs in the balance and Onana has emerged as an option to replace the Ghanaian.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Romano added that the 22-year-old is one of many candidates on the north London side's wish list.
"[It is] not something really concrete at this point. They had some contact, yes, in terms of being informed on the players' situation, but it's not the proper negotiation to the club yet. I think Arsenal has several names in that list for the midfield. Onana is appreciated by many, many clubs in England," Romano said.
Recent reports by Romano have suggested that Arsenal also have their eyes on Real Sociedad ace Martin Zubimendi.
Gunners want Ousmane Diomande
Arsenal are interested in Ousmane Diomande, according to Correio da Manha. The 20-year-old has been a revelation for Sporting since arriving at the club last summer. He has formed a rock-solid partnership at the back with Goncalo Inacio.
Diomande has appeared 38 times across competitions for the Portuguese side in the 2023-24 campaign. His assured performances have turned heads at the Emirates. Mikel Arteta has a settled center-back partnership of William Saliba and Gabriel on his team.
However, the Spanish manager wants to add more depth to his squad and has set his sights on Diomande. The Ivorian defender reportedly has a £68m release clause in his deal, but Sporting are willing to let him go for £42m.
Arsenal suffer Alexander Isak blow
Alexander Isak has rubbished rumors of a possible exit from Newcastle United this summer. The Swedish striker has been in red-hot form for the Magpies in the 2023-24 campaign, scoring 25 goals and setting up two more from 40 games. His efforts have turned heads at the Emirates, where a new No. 9 is a priority this year.
Mikel Arteta wants an upgrade on Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah before the start of the new campaign. Isak has emerged as an option and fits the Spanish manager's style of play.
However, speaking to Fotballskanalen, the 24-year-old insisted that he remains settled at St. James' Park.
“I am enjoying myself at Newcastle, and I had the best season in my career — that should not be underestimated. I love everything about the club; the fans, and the city," Isak said.
He continued:
“It (my future) is not something I will speculate about, I have no thoughts on leaving. There has been no talk about it at the club and I have received no information that the could would have to sell me.”
Isak's contract with Newcastle United runs until 2028, so prising him away will be a costly affair.
