Arsenal Transfer News Roundup: Gunners want Newcastle ace; club submit £17m offer for Turkish star, and more - June 21, 2024
Arsenal will hope to continue their steady rise under Mikel Arteta in the upcoming campaign. The Spanish manager has transformed his team into title challengers recently and will be desperate to get his hands on the Premier League trophy next season.
Meanwhile, the Gunners have set their sights on Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. Elsewhere, the north London club are working to bring Fenerbahce left-back Ferdi Kadioglu to the Emirates this summer.
On that note, here's a look at the key Arsenal transfer stories as on June 21, 2024:
Arsenal want Bruno Guimaraes
Arsenal are planning a player-plus-cash offer for Bruno Guimaraes, according to Caught Offside. Arteta is looking for a new face to partner Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard in midfield and has identified the Brazilian as an option.
Guimaraes registered seven goals and 10 assists in 50 games across competitions for Newcastle United in the 2023-24 campaign. His efforts have caused a stir at the Emirates, but the player is protected by a £100 million release clause, which is posing a problem.
The Gunners now want to bring down Newcastle's asking price by including Oleksandr Zinchenko in their proposal. The Ukrainian is no longer part of Arteta's plans and will be allowed to leave this summer.
The north London side are hoping to use the player to convince the Magpies to accept a lesser fee for their star man. Zinchenko was in and out of Arteta's squad in the 2023- 24 campaign but could be a fine option for Eddie Howe.
Gunners submit £17 million offer for Ferdi Kadioglu
Arsenal have submitted their opening offer for Ferdi Kadioglu, according to Ajan Spor. The Turkish left-back is a target for Arteta this summer, with the manager keen to add a specialist for the position.
Arteta deployed Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jakub Kiwior in the position with varied effects in the 2023-24 campaign. Kadioglu could be an upgrade on bunch and is coming off an impressive season with Fenerbahce.
The 24-year-old registered three goals and five assists in 51 games across competitions. The Gunners are pleased with his efforts and want him at the Emirates.
The north London side have already offered £17 million for the Turkey international, who is also wanted at Borussia Dortmund, but Fenerbahce want £30 million to let him go.
Alexander Isak no longer a target at Emirates, says journalist
Arteta has ended his pursuit of Alexander Isak, according to transfer insider Ben Jacobs. The Swedish striker enjoyed an impressive 2023-24 campaign with Newcastle United, registering 25 goals and two assists in 40 appearances across competitions.
His efforts have earned him admirers at the Emirates. Arteta is looking to rope in a new striker this summer to become the focal point of his attack next season. Isak is among the shortlisted candidates for the job.
However, speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs added that the north London side are not too optimistic about prising him away from St. James' Park.
"On the forward front, I think as we saw from Arsenal's bid - or proposal - for Benjamin Sesko, that's the kind of forward they are looking at first and foremost with plenty of other targets.
"As I said earlier, they're attentive to the (Joshua) Zirkzee situation; Viktor Gyokeres is still on the list, as is Evan Ferguson as well," said Jacobs.
He continued:
"And although Arsenal have high appreciation and historical interest in Alexander Isak, the feeling is that he is simply not for sale.
"And it will be a very big surprise if Newcastle changed that position, so at the moment Arsenal would feel like they were wasting their time trying for Isak."
Isak is under contract with the Magpies till 2028, and they have him firmly in their plans.
