Ballon d'Or 2024: Rankings 8 to 10 revealed as Lamine Yamal finishes above Toni Kroos
Lamie Yamal has finished ahead of Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos in this year's Ballon d'Or ranking. Harry Kane has come in 10th – 9 positions better than he did in the 2023 rankings.
The Barcelona youngster had a good season with the Catalan side but could not win a trophy with the club. He scored five times from 37 games in the league – a tally he has already matched this season in 11 matches. The Spaniard was a key part of Spain's squad at the EURO 2024 win and scored a crucial goal against France in the semi-finals.
Kroos, who retired from football at the end of last season, is a spot below the teenager in the rankings this year. The German won the UEFA Champions League, Supercopa de Espana, and LaLiga with Real Madrid in his final season. However, he could not get past Spain in the quarterfinals of the EURO 2024.
Kane takes the final spot in the Top 10 - a position he would be proud of after another trophyless season. He moved to Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur last season but finished with just one medal – the runners-up in the DFL Supercup. He scored 36 times in the league and eight times in the Champions League for the German side and won the European Golden Shoe.
Ballon d'Or ceremony boycotted by Real Madrid
Real Madrid are furious with France Football and have boycotted the Ballon d'Or gala today after learning that Vinicius Jr was not winning the award. The Spanish side believe that their star player should have won the award but with reports suggesting Rodri was winning it, they have boycotted the gala.
Marca have reported that the Blancos were to take a private jet to Paris today but decided against going as the Manchester City star was winning the Ballon d'Or. The Spanish giants were named the best club in the world for the 2023-24 season, but no representative from the club was present to collect the award.
