Barcelona add Lamine Yamal and breakout teenage star to their 2024-25 first-team squad
Barcelona have added Euro 2024 starlet Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi to their first-team squad for the upcoming 2024-25 season. While Yamal, 16, has blazed at trail at the European Championships in Germany, Cubarsi has also been on the rise.
Yamal is coming off a breakthrough 2023-24 campaign, contributing an impressive seven goals and 10 assists in 50 games across competitions. The 16-year-old has continued that at the European Championships, contributing a goal and three assists to lead Spain to the final.
Meanwhile, Cubarsi, 17, is another breakout star at the Camp Nou and is poised for a bright future, just like Yamal. Making his first-team debut last season, the centre-back contributed an assist in 35 games across competitions.
Thus it comes as no surprise that Barca have confirmed the two stars to be a part of their 2024-25 first-team squad, saying in an official statement (as per Forbes):
"Pau Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal are now official first team squad members. Previously registered with the U19s and Barca Atletic respectively, the two Blaugrana have been full members of the FC Barcelona first team squad since Tuesday," the club said.
"Pau Cubarsi played 24 competitive games with the first team last season. His debut came on Jan 18 2024, a few days before his 17th birthday during a Copa del Rey game away to Unionistas, and he has earned his spot in the starting eleven ever since. He is one of the Blaugrana players who will feature at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris," Barca said about Cubarsi.
Both Yamal and Cubarsi are graduates from Barca's renowned La Masia, with both starlets making their first-team debut under Xavi Hernandez.
What are the records set by Barcelona star Lamine Yamal at Euro 2024?
Lamine Yamal is having a memorable campaign for Spain at Euro 2024. By assisting in the 3-0 group-stage win over Croatia, the 16-year-old became the youngest assist-provider in European Championship history.
The Barcelona sensation provided assists in the first two knockout games - the 4-1 Round-of-16 win over Georgia and the 2-1 quarter-final win in extra time over hosts France.
Yamal then created history in the 2-1 come-from-behind semi-final win over France. His sumptuous first-half equaliser - in off the far post - made him the youngest scorer in the history of the Euros.
Can he now become the youngest player to win the European Championship as La Roja take on England in the final in Berlin on Sunday (July 14)?
