Barcelona dealt injury blow as star man set to miss UCL clash against Monaco after picking up injury – Reports

According to reports, Barcelona summer signing Dani Olmo could miss the club’s UEFA Champions League match against Monaco on Thursday (September 19). The Spaniard picked up an injury during Barcelona’s 4-1 win against Girona away from home as they continued their perfect start to the 2024-25 La Liga campaign.

Dani Olmo rejoined his childhood club in a move reportedly worth €60 million this summer, and has put on impressive performances since the move to Catalonia. After getting himself on the scoresheet against Girona, Olmo was replaced by Eric Garcia in the 61st minute due to an apparent hamstring injury.

According to Diario AS, Dani Olmo's hamstring injury will force him to miss Barcelona’s 2024-25 Champions League opener against Monaco. He is expected to recover in a week or ten days at the most.

After the match, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick confirmed that Olmo would need further assessments to determine the severity of his injury.

“We have to wait until tomorrow, we’ll do more tests,” Flick said (via The Athletic). “We still don’t know the full extent but hopefully it’s not too serious.”

Dani Olmo missed Barcelona's first two games of the season as he wasn’t registered due to the club’s financial constraints. He has scored three goals in three appearances for Barca in La Liga so far this season.

Barcelona target Joshua Kimmich states he is open to renewing his contract with Bayern Munich

Barcelona could suffer a significant setback as one of their long-term transfer interests, Joshua Kimmich, is open to extending his contract with Bayern Munich. The Spanish giants have reportedly been monitoring the player for a while and were widely expected to sign him as a free agent next summer.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Joshua Kimmich is moving closer to extending his contract with Bayern Munich. The player himself confirmed his willingness to enter negotiations after his side’s Bundesliga match against Holstein Kiel on Saturday (September 14).

Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl also stated his desire to retain Joshua Kimmich, saying:

''Kimmich must be one of the club's references in the future."

Kimmich said:

''In general, it is always nice to hear the support and backing of the club. Yes, I am open (to negotiate an extension)."

Kimmich’s current contract with Bayern will end next summer, having been previously extended in 2021.
