Barcelona defender set for Premier League move after surprise agreement - Reports

Barcelona defender Julian Araujo is set to complete a permanent switch to the Premier League after Bournemouth reached an agreement to sign him. The Mexico international becomes the latest player to move away from the Spanish club as they are keen to raise money from player sales.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is credited with having transformed how the Cherries play within just one season. The Spaniard helped the side record its highest-ever finish (12th) in the Premier League as well as its highest-ever points total (48 points) in a single season.

Iraola's performance has led the club to back him on transfers, and the Cherries have a big one coming in from Spain. They have an agreement in place to sign Araujo on a permanent deal from Barcelona for €10 million, as per The Athletic.

Araujo began his career in Barcelona's USA academy, from where he joined LA Galaxy in 2018. He completed a move to the Spanish giants in 2023 before spending the 2023-24 season on loan at Las Palmas, where he made 28 appearances across all competitions.

Bournemouth signed Max Aarons last summer but appear to be unconvinced by the Englishman's performances for the side. Twenty-two-year-old Mexico international Araujo will have his medical at the club before signing a five-year deal.

Barcelona remain keen on another right-back this summer, with the re-signing of Portugal international Joao Cancelo being considered by the club. Hansi Flick will be hopeful of having the Manchester City man join his side in time for the start of the 2024-25 season.

Barcelona submit €27 million offer for Premier League star - Reports

Barcelona have sent a bid of €27 million to Manchester City for the transfer of outcast Joao Cancelo this summer, as per SPORT. The Spanish giants are in the market for a new right-back, with Cancelo their first-choice option after he spent the 2023-24 season on their books.

La Blaugrana have their sights set on Cancelo, who has no future at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola. The English champions are keen to sell him, but the Catalan giants have sent an offer of €7 million for a loan with a €20 million buy option included. City are expected to turn down the offer in preference of a permanent sale this summer, with interest from elsewhere.

La Blaugrana have only Jules Kounde as a senior right-back, with youngster Hector Fort capable of filling in for the Frenchman. They will be keen to get the position sorted ahead of the start of the new season in a week.
